The strategy will focus on senior secured loans, structured credit, and asset-backed financing solutions for strategically important and government-linked companies and agencies in emerging economies. The platform aims to address capital gaps for borrowers seeking flexible financing, with an emphasis on capital preservation, collateral protection, and disciplined underwriting.

“Emerging markets present a compelling opportunity for private credit investors. Bank retrenchment, regulatory constraints, and growing demand for non-dilutive capital have created a significant opportunity for experienced private credit managers to deliver attractive risk-adjusted returns while supporting the growth of high-quality businesses,” said Tony Cappell, Partner at Chicago Atlantic.

The strategy will be led by Peter Marber, Ph.D., and Jim Garvey, CFA®, and overseen by Scott Gordon, a Chicago Atlantic Partner. Gordon previously helped found the Emerging Markets business at JP Morgan and later led emerging markets platforms at ING Bank and Bank of America before holding senior leadership roles at several investment firms.

Marber has previously headed emerging markets businesses at UBS, HSBC, and Loomis Sayles and has held academic positions at Harvard, Columbia, NYU, and Johns Hopkins.

“There’s a structural opportunity in these fast-growing markets, and I’m excited to work with Scott, Jim and others at Chicago Atlantic to expand their private credit offerings,” said Peter Marber, Co-Head of Emerging Markets at Chicago Atlantic.

Garvey has more than three decades of experience in emerging markets investing, including roles at Emso Asset Management and Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

“It’s great to work with Scott Gordon and Peter again, both Emerging Market veterans whom I hold in high esteem,” said Jim Garvey, Co-Head of Emerging Markets at Chicago Atlantic.

The dedicated emerging markets team will also include Umesh Mahajan, Bill Healy, CAIA®, and Jack Flaherty.

Chicago Atlantic expects the strategy to attract institutional investors seeking yield and portfolio diversification through exposure to emerging economies.

Founded in 2018, Chicago Atlantic operates offices in Chicago, Miami, New York, and London and has deployed more than $3.3 billion in private loans across over 185 transactions.
